WATER

This investigation was spawned during a visit to Salford Quays, Manchester. My journey on that day was infused with vivid memories of a time twenty-five years earlier spent walking on the shores of Lake Ontario, Canada.

My experience raised a series of questions: What is the role of memory in the continuity of our lives?

Place often provides a theatre in which we are encouraged to relive moments from the past. To what degree are these moments sewn into the pace that calls for their reliving?

How might physical environment capture memory? Is memory the handmaiden of our separate destinies?

To what extent if the future predetermined by the past we live and revisit?

The water of the Quays gave rise to these questions. Water was the link between the awakening memoires on that day and the memories this elemental substance reconstructed during my walk by Lake Ontario.

This band of water spanning both time and physical distance, between memory and the original experience that created it has been used as the beginning point for my investigation.

My inquiry continues.
